Dobnak deals in Twins loss to Braves

Minnesota ace Randy Dobnak looked like his usual self from the bump on Friday as he struck out five — and allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings pitched — but couldn’t help ignite the Twins’ bats in their 4-2 loss to Atlanta.

Minnesota pinned just four hits on the Braves bullpen on an afternoon that featured very little offensive excitement. The Twins scored two runs in the top-half of the fifth courtesy of a Brent Rooker double to left-center and a right-field single by Tomas Telis.

Atlanta was mostly held in check, offensively, as well, but managed to rally and score two go-ahead runs in the seventh.

Twins’ pitchers Juan Minaya, Matt Canterino, Robinson Leyer and Caleb Thielbar fanned seven batters combined but also walked eight.

Stunningly, none of Minnesota’s eight players swinging from the first four spots in the lineup recorded a hit.

The defeat drops the Twins record in the Grapefruit League to 6-10-1. Minnesota next plays Tampa Bay at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be televised by FOX Sports North.
