Frost becomes 1st woman to ride Grade 1 winner at Cheltenham

CHELTENHAM, England (AP) — Bryony Frost became the first woman to ride a winner in a top-level race at the Cheltenham Festival as Frodon held on for victory in the Ryanair Chase on Thursday.

“Sometimes fairy tales do come true,” said the 23-year-old Frost, who rose to her feet in the saddle and pumped her fists as she was applauded into the winner’s enclosure.

Frost, whose father Jimmy is a Grand National-winning jockey, is the first female jockey to win a Grade One race at the meeting.

Paul Nicholls, Frodon’s trainer, said it was “one of the best days ever.”

Frodon, a 9-2 shot, won by about a length from Aso.
