The Police Public Relations Officer in Niger, Abubakar Dan-Inna, confirmed the incident to Channels Television on Tuesday.
He, however, said he could not tell whether any of the victims was related to the governor’s Chief of Staff.
Dan-Inna explained that the police command has dispatched a rescue team to the area, adding that they were already on the trail of the abductors.
On whether families of the abductees have been contacted by the kidnappers, the command’s spokesman said, “The only thing I can tell you is that investigation is on, nothing more.”
Meanwhile, a source close to Mr Balarabe’s family confirmed to Channels Television that one of the women abducted by the gunmen was a wife to the elder brother of the Chief of Staff to the governor.
