Gyorko a steady presence for up-and-down Brewers lineup
Jedd Gyorko, Brewers first baseman (⬆️ UP)
Gyorko is quietly putting together the best season of his career. Ok, sure, it doesn’t count since it’s a 60-game season. But Gyorko has been a consistent force for Milwaukee in a tumultuous offensive campaign. Gyorko is currently mashing at a career-best pace, as his .273/.357/.576 slash line would go down as a career high along with a .303 ISO (the measure of slugging percentage minus on-base percentage). And his 140 wRC+ — the measure of how many runs produced compared to the average player – would be his best as well. Gyroko’s previous high was a 113 wRC+ in 2017. Plus, he did what only four other players have been able to do this season – homer off of Cincinnati starting pitcher Luis Castillo. Castillo hadn’t allowed a dinger since Aug. 30.

Aaron Jones, Packers running back (⬆️ UP)
You know the stat line by now. Jones logged 22 touches for a career-best 236 total yards and three touchdowns in Green Bay’s win over Detroit. Through two games, Jones has registered a league-high 234 rushing yards and is one of four players with four touchdowns to his name. Now the question is … when is that contract extension coming?
Ryan Braun, Brewers slugger (⬇️ DOWN)
Ever since he went nuts against St. Louis and Kansas City, going 8-for-18 with three homers and eight RBI, Braun has cooled off. He’s gone 0-for-7 with three strikeouts against the Reds. But hey, it’s ok. We know Braun will come around again soon. It’s still September after all.
Jonathan Taylor, former Badgers running back (⬆️ UP)
We know what Taylor is capabale of. It’s just fun to see it translate so quickly in the NFL. With Marlon Mack out for the season due to a torn Achilles, Taylor is the lead running back in Indianapolis. Making his first career start Sunday, Taylor beat down the Vikings for 101 rushing yards and a score on 26 carries.
More Vikings coverage
Devin Williams, Brewers reliever (⬆️ UP)
The more we write about Williams, the better he pitches. With 52 strikeouts in 25 innings, Williams has logged a league-high 18.7 K/9. On Tuesday night, Williams whiffed five Cincinnati batters over two scoreless innings of work, helping Milwaukee preserve a 3-2 lead in a game with heavy playoff implications. Williams hasn’t allowed a single run since July 29. That’s 22 2/3 consecutive innings. Give the man the Rookie of the Year award.By the way, there are three Milwaukee relievers ranking in the top five among bullpen arms in K/9: Williams, Freddy Peralta (15.2) and Josh Hader (14.8).
Rashan Gary, Packers linebacker (⬆️ UP)
Gary was immediately dubbed as a project when he was drafted 12th overall by the Packers in 2019. But Gary was even more quiet than many expected as a rookie, posting just 21 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks while playing 22.2% of the defensive snaps. It looks like he’s a legitimate breakout candidate this fall. Gary has played 56% or more of the snaps through two weeks, and the Michigan product tallied a career-high 1.5 sacks against the Lions.
