Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog ‘doing well’ after suffering stroke Monday
ST. LOUIS — Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog, who spent 11 seasons as the St. Louis Cardinals’ skipper, is said to be recovering nicely after suffering a minor stroke at his charity golf tournament on Monday.
The Cardinals released a statement from Herzog and his family on Tuesday evening stating that “Whitey and his family wanted to let everyone know that he has received treatment and is currently resting, and doing well. Whitey is hoping for a quick recovery, and he and his family are very appreciative of the caring support that everyone has shown them.”
The 87-year-old Herzog was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in July of 2010. He won 1,281 games over an 18-year managerial career split between the Cardinals, Royals, Angels and Rangers and posted an 822-728 record over his time in St. Louis, leading the Cardinals to three NL pennants and a World Series victory in 1982.
