Jewett-Giles nets 22, FGCU women win 3rd straight A-Sun
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Keri Jewett-Giles had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists and Florida Gulf Coast cruised to its third straight Atlantic Sun tournament title and NCAA Tournament with their 19th-straight win, 72-49 over Liberty on Sunday.
Jewett-Giles scored the first seven points of the game and had all 11 points as the Eagles (28-4) raced to an 11-2 lead, easing to its sixth trip to the NCAAs. FGCU scored the last 10 points of the quarter for a 26-8 lead and the lead never dropped below 20 after the midpoint of the second quarter.
Davion Wingate added 14 points and Destiny Washington had 12 for FGCU, which went 16-0 in league play by beating the Flames 68-50 at home and winning 65-64 at Liberty.
Liberty (16-7), which has won 14 Big South tourney titles, finished third in its first season in the Atlantic Sun. Emily Lytle had 14 points and Ria Gulley 12 for the Flames, who shot 36 percent and went 4 of 14 from distance.
FGCU was 11 of 32 from long range and shot 45 percent overall. The Eagles turned 17 turnovers into 20 points.
