Minority Leadership: Merit Will Be Placed Ahead Of Other Considerations, Says Lawmaker

A House Of Representatives Member representing Osun State, Oluwole Oke, has explained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will look at capacity and competence in selecting a candidate for the House Minority leadership in the Ninth Assembly.

Honourable Oke who was guest on Channels TV programme, Politics Today, said that other opinions contrary to the party’s position are petty, despite calls that the minority leader should not be from Rivers State.

“The fact that our National chairman is from Rivers state does not mean that if we have a competent member from Rivers state, he should not lead the minority caucus of the house.

“In this case, I think merit, competence, capacity, knowledge of the law, rules of the house and the ability to lead debates on the floor of the house, will be the factors that we will be placed ahead of other considerations.

“Other arguments, opinions are petty, so we will be looking at capacity and competence of who will be our leader in the house,” he added.
