Packers’ Gutekunst making free agency pretty fun
Gutekunst gave a hint last year that this wasn’t your father’s general manager. He cemented that this week. With the NFL in its legal tampering period, Gutekunst (reportedly) went out and agreed to deals with not one, not two, not three but four free agents (safety Adrian Amos, linebacker Preston Smith, edge rusher Za’Darius Smith and offensive lineman Billy Turner). And not depth guys, but players who all should be contributing in 2019 (and, hopefully for Green Bay, beyond). Yes, the draft will still be key to any general manager’s tenure and a team’s future, but Gutekunst has upgraded the Packers’ roster quickly in the offseason. And Packers fans are finding out this whole free agency thing is pretty cool.
