Packers post-free agency 2021 mock draft roundup

Mock drafts really start to take shape this time of year. After all, the ones in January and February come before any transactions are made.

With the start of the league year, players are cut and free agents signed and/or lost. Green Bay is no different … albeit perhaps on a smaller scale than other teams.

The Packers said goodbye to linebacker Christian Kirksey and offensive tackle Rick Wagner, who were cut, and center Corey Linsley and running back Jamaal Willams, who signed with other teams. While Green Bay hasn’t dipped into the free-agent market, it did re-sign several players, most notably running back Aaron Jones, cornerback Kevin King and tight end Marcedes Lewis.

Those moves could well affect Green Bay’s plans in this year’s NFL draft, at least in the early rounds.

Thanks to compensatory picks, the Packers will have 10 selections in the upcoming draft, one in at least each round with two apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Most mocks, of course, just concern themselves with the first round (we’ve noted below which ones do multiple rounds).

In predicting the Packers’ first-round selection at No. 29 overall, there isn’t much of a consensus. Of course, picking later in the first round will lead to a bigger variety of choices. In fact, it’s nearly split down the middle as to if Green Bay will take a defensive or offensive player in the first round. As you will see, however, a few players stand out over others.

Here’s the latest roundup of mock drafts for the Packers from around the web:

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama. “Dickerson is the best pure interior offensive lineman available. I thought he might fall out of the first round after his ACL injury, but it appears his recovery is going smoothly. He can step in following the departure of Corey Linsley.”

Peter Schrager of NFL.com: Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri. “Joe Barry is the new DC and his specialty is LB play. I’m not sure GB’s defense didn’t miss Blake Martinez roaming the middle in big games last year. Bolton isn’t going to jump off the page with eye-popping athleticism, but everyone says he’ll be the QB of whichever defense he joins.”

Ben Standig of The Ringer: Landon Dickerson, G/C, Alabama. “Put me down as a believer: The Packers will once again ignore Aaron Rodgers’ hopes and dreams of adding a wide receiver on Day 1. They can avoid any further talk of a rift with the three-time league MVP by drafting one on Day 2 or selecting Bateman with this pick. Wide receivers are plentiful in this draft class, which is why there’s value in taking the first center. Green Bay lost former starter Corey Linsley in free agency.”

Drafttek (7 rounds): Round 1 — Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama; Round 2 – Paulson Adebo, CB, Stanford; Round 3 – Ihmir Smith-Marsette, WR, Iowa; Round 4a – JaCoby Stevens, S, LSU; Round 4b – Daelin Hayes, Edge, Notre Dame; Round 5a – Michal Menet, C, Penn State; Round 5b – Javian Hawkins, RB, Louisville; Round 6a – Stone Forsythe, OT, Florida; Round 6b – Jacob Harris, WR, Central Florida; Round 7 – Avery Williams, CB, Boise State.

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA Today: Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama. “Perhaps Aaron Rodgers’ long-sought No. 2 target can wait until the second round if Barmore, an ascendant interior disruptor still learning how to become more consistent, is available here.”

Vinnie Iyer of the Sporting News: Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa. “Collins can play inside or outside and the Packers need more second-level ground coverage against pass and run in their 3-4. He explodes as an athlete and can make a lot of plays with his agility, quickness and range.”

Chris Trapasso of CBSSports.com (2 rounds): Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU. “The Packers simply go best player available here with Moehrig, the consensus top safety in the class.”; Round 2 – Jabril Cox, LB, LSU.

Tom Fornelli of CBSSports.com: Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU. “Aaron Rodgers is seen fainting as the Packers use a first-round pick on a receiver for him. Seriously, Marshall strikes me as an excellent complement to Davante Adams and makes the Packers offense even more dangerous than it already is.”

Ryan Wilson of CBSSports.com (2 rounds): Round 1 – Levi Onwuzurike, DL, Washington; Round 2 – Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss.

Jeff Kerr of CBSSports.com: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame.

Cory McCann Erzing of SI.com: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida.

Ben Linsley of Pro Football Focus: Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama. “Defensive line is not the first need that comes to mind for Green Bay. However, Barmore — the 15th-ranked player on PFF’s Big Board — is not the kind of player the Packers should pass on to force a need. Outside of Kenny Clark, Green Bay has struggled to find someone who can give them consistent snaps between the tackles over the last several years. Barmore can line up in several different spots inside and disrupt as a run defender and pass-rusher. He’s coming off a 90.0 overall grade with Alabama in 2020.”

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News: Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU.

Luke Easterling of Draft Wire (2 rounds): Round 1 — Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern; Round 2 – Quinn Meinerz, OL, UW-Whitewater.

Walter Cherepinsky of WalterFootball.com (6 rounds): Round 1 – Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern; Round 2 – Wyatt Davis, OG, Ohio State; Round 3 – Jerome Johnson, DT, Indiana;; Round 4a – Dez Fitzpatrick, WR, Louisville; Round 4b – Josh Myers, C, Ohio State; Round 5a – D’Ante Smith, OT; Round 5b – Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, USC; Round 6a – Javian Hawkins, RB, Louisville; Sam Williams, Edge, Mississippi.

Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com (5 rounds): Round 1 – Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern; Round 2 – Tutu Atwell, WR, Louisville; Round 3 – Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma; Round 4a – K.J. Britt, LB, Auburn; Round 4b – Trevon Grimes, WR, Florida; Round 5a – Sadarius Hutcherson, OT, South Carolina; 5b – Ta’Quan Graham, DE, Texas.

Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department: Elijah Moore, WR, Mississippi.

Tommy Garrett of Pro Football Network: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame. “Eichenberg could be a Day 1 starter for the Packers at either tackle position. Billy Turner could slide over, and once David Bakhtiari is healthy, he can slide back, allowing Eichenberg to remain the starter. At 6’6″, 306 pounds, Eichenberg is a mountain-sized human yet quick off the ball. His pro day numbers backed this up with a 4.57 20-yard shuttle and a 7.53 in the three-cone drill.”

Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network (3 rounds): Round 1 – Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas; Round 2 – Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama; Round 3 – Keith Taylor, CB, Washington.

Andy Vasquez of NorthJersey.com: Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue.

Mark Inabinett of Al.com: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama.

Joe Giglio of NJ Advance Media: Alex Leatherwood, OT, Alabama.

Brentley Weissman of The Draft Network: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame.

Harley Schultz of The Huddle: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame.

Scott Smith of The Action Network: Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota.

Matt Fallon of Last Word on Football (2 rounds): Round 1 – Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa; Round 2 – Tylan Wallace, WR, Oklahoma State.

Brad Johannes of The Huddle Report: Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama. “Kenny Clark has been a force for the Packers, but Green Bay has struggled to find someone to pair next to him as they’ve often had to play with only two defensive lineman on a regular basis. Looking for some help they could go with Alabama’s Christian Barmore who really turned it on for the Crimson Tide late in the season. Barmore’s ability to clog up the middle could take some pressure off Clarke and the rest of the Packers defensive line.”

Paul M. Banks of The Sports Bank: Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern.

Joe DiTullio of GameHaus: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida.

MyNFLDraft.com: Joseph Ossai, LB, Texas.

NFL Draft Room: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida.

Tankathon: Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas.

Brett Esch of Full Press Coverage: Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue.
