Packers Snap Counts: Davante Adams makes quiet return against Bucs

Watching Green Bay wide receiver Davante Adams run routes again had to be a welcomed sight for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Adams, who missed the last two contests with a hamstring injury, was back on the field during the Packers’ 38-10 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday.

He played 52 of Green Bay’s 63 offensive snaps (83%), which was actually one less than Marquez Valdes-Scantling, although that was more of a result of the Packers surrendering midway through the fourth quarter and pulling their starters.

Adams was back to being Rodgers’ favorite option in the passing game, as he was targeted 10 times — twice more than any other receiver. And it started early. Rodgers looked Adams’ way twice on the opening drive, connecting for two catches for 20 yards.

However, Adams was limited to six catches for 61 yards against Tampa Bay.

It was the toughest test of the season for Green Bay’s offense. The Buccaneers are allowing the fewest yards per game (282) and the fifth-fewest yards through the air (217.7). Only two receivers – Carolina’s D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson – have been able to rack up 100+ receiving yards against the Buccaneers.

Although his return to the field was a bit quieter than what was hoped (or even expected), the healthy Adams should be blowing up box scores once again this weekend against the lowly Houston secondary.

Other notes from Sunday’s snap counts:

— Josh Jackson, who made his first start since Dec. 30, 2018, filled in for the injured Kevin King at cornerback. Jackson played all 65 defensive snaps. He’s been more involved just twice — Week 10 (68 snaps) and Week 11 (69 snaps) of his 2018 rookie campaign.

— After missing the entire 2019 campaign with an ankle injury, Equanimeous St. Brown was activated from the injured reserve on Saturday and appeared in his first contest since Dec. 23, 2018. He played 11 offensive snaps (17%) and was targeted twice but did not record a catch.

— After Green Bay waved its white flag in the fourth quarter, Tim Boyle played the final three snaps for the Packers. Boyle has appeared in four of five contests as the backup quarterback.

— Rookie running back AJ Dillon was on the field for a career-high 10 snaps (16%). He rushed five times for a career-best 31 yards (6.2 average).

— After missing the last three games on injured reserve, Kenny Clark returned and was on the field for 41 of Green Bay’s 65 defensive plays (63%). Clark tallied four tackles in the loss.
