Pedregon leads Funny Car qualifying at Mile-High Nationals

MORRISON, Colo. (AP) — Cruz Pedregon led Funny Car qualifying Friday night in the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.

Seeking his 62nd No. 1 qualifier and first since 2015, the 55-year-old Pedregon had a 4.002-second run at 317.42 mph in a Dodge Charger.

“We’ve had some ups and downs this year, but I think the needle is pointing up for us,” Pedregon said. “The car is starting to come around and I feel really good. This racetrack has been really good to me through the years. What’s really incredible is all the teams have figured out how to run well on the mountain, and that’s a credit to everyone.”

Steve Torrence led in Top Fuel, Greg Anderson in Pro Stock and Andrew Hines in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Torrence, the defending season champion and current points leader, had a 3.787 at a track-record speed of 330.31. Defending event winner Anderson ran a 6.980 at 196.30 in a Chevrolet Camaro, and points leader Andrew Hines had a 7.232 at 186.20 on a Harley-Davidson.
