Job Summary
The Protection Supervisor manages and supervises the projects being implemented in his/her capacity and ensures implementation of the strategy and the development and managerial coordination of the Protection teams (Child Friendly Spaces and Case Management).
The Protection Supervisor supports and validates the quality of the work done by the protection teams as regards the JRS mandate and commitments and international standards.
Role/Mission
- Leads and gathers data during needs assessment, baseline studies, periodic studies, and gives feedback findings to stakeholders.
- Plans activities in coordination with field staff to support vulnerable IDPs and hosts community children.
- Collects data from field activities and prepares regular reports on field activities.
- Leads and carries out assessment to identify context based appropriate activities for children, refugees and IDPs in consultation with relevant partners and authorities.
- Develops detailed activity planning, in collaboration with the line manager and according to program priorities, budget concerns, staff capacity and needs.
- Ensures protection needs are identified, recorded, analyzed, and responded to adequately.
- Ensures a proper follow-up of cases is done, through access to project activities, like individual counseling of emotionally distressed refugees and focus group discussions, and/or through referral.
- Supervises the team members by assigning them tasks according to priority and supporting them in rolling out activities, to effectively reach project’s objectives.
- Ensures the project is reaching its objectives timely and according to standards. Communicates with the line manager constraints and issues affecting project’s capacity to achieve results and proactively proposes solutions.
- Ensures implementation of the activities in line with Protection Standards, relevant national/international standards, JRS code of conduct, and Humanitarian Principles.
- Considers gender, protection, age and environmental cross cutting issues in program design, implementation, and reporting.
- Carries out activities in a way that reflects the needs of specific groups and individuals.
- Identifies capacity building needs in the team and contribute to capacity building. Organizes and raises structured awareness among community members.
- Ensures adequate data collection and data storage of all activities and prepares timely weekly/monthly/quarterly activity reports.
Required Profile
Have a University Degree in Law, International Law, political Sciences, Psychology, social sciences, Humanities, or related field.
Experience and Qualification
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in supervisory level working in a humanitarian organization or with displacement affected populations.
- Experience in project design, management, and implementation of field-based protection programs.
- Strong coordination, communication, and advocacy skills.
- Experience in programmatic reporting.
- Experience in budget and financial reporting.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong supervisory skills
Qualities
- Adhere to JRS values and abide by the code of conduct and other policies.
- Excellent knowledge of English and good working knowledge of a local language preferably Hausa.
- Understanding of protection, human rights, international law, refugee law and humanitarian principles.
- Flexibility to work in a diverse multicultural team.
- Ability to live and work in unstable, insecure environments and sometimes inhospitable conditions.
- Ability and willingness to work under tight deadlines.
