We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Quantity Surveyor
Location: Jimeta-Yola, Adamawa
Employment Type: Full Time
Summary of Position
- The Quantity Surveyor is charged with the responsibilities of controlling and managing the construction projects.
- He/She shall exhibit an understanding of the technical aspects of construction over the whole life of a building or facility, accommodate the requirements of a building to suit the particular circumstances of a project, achieve the best quality and value within the client’s specifications and understand contracts, budgets, quantities and measurements.
- In addition, the incumbent shall focus on providing FortBuild Limited value for money while adhering to the strict regulations which govern every aspect of the construction industry.
Deatailed Listing of Responsibilities
- Shall be responsible for the cost of any building project – from initial estimates, right through to the final acquisition of materials.
- Undertake cost analysis for repairs and maintenance and develop price/forecast the cost of the different materials needed for the project.
- Assist in establishing client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies;
- Perform risk assessment, value management and cost control on all projects;
- Prepare tender documents, contracts, schedules, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation required;
- Ensure that the specification, bill of quantities and drawings are produced in a technically sound and standardized manner
- Establish monitoring and evaluation tools to ensure that all projects are implemented according to plans and completed within the designated time-frame
- Track changes to the design and/or construction work, prepare final accounts and variation documents and adjust budget projections accordingly;
- Select or source for construction materials and advice on procurement strategies, identifying, analyzing and developing responses to commercial risks
- Procure or agree the services of contractors and/or subcontractors who work on the construction of the project;
- Measure and value the work done on site, analyze the work progress percentage and allocate work to subcontractors.
- Constantly visit the field to ensure standardization of all works and materials;
- Prepare valuations for monthly payments for subcontractors and provide advice on contractual claims after thorough review of work done;
- Prepare schedules of work and monitoring and evaluation templates
- Liaise with the client and other construction professionals, such as site managers, project managers and site engineers for quality output and required support;
- Analyze outcomes on each project and write detailed progress report using pictures where necessary
- Ensure constant updating of the QS database including the different building contracts in current use;
- Understand the implications of health and safety regulations on projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Requirements
- A good Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building, Industrial Design or a similar field from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Experience: 3 – 5 years
- Knowledge of applicable construction company policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of quantity surveying principles and practices.
- Knowledge of data processing principles as applied to the solution of construction problems.
- Ability to interpret and prepare drawings, maps, graphs, specifications and compilation of numerical data.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- Expert level competence with MS Office package and other relevant applications.
