Rangers recall Taylor Hearn from alternate training site
The following is a press release from the Texas Rangers:
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Monday’s series opener against the Mariners that the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Taylor Hearn from the Alternate Training Site. Hearn (#52) will be available in the bullpen for tonight’s game, seeking to make his first appearance with the Rangers in 2020.
To make room for Hearn on the active 28-man roster, the team has optioned outfielder Adolis García to the Alternate Training Site.
Hearn, 25, will be seeking his season debut and just his second career Major League appearance in tonight’s game against Seattle. He has been throwing multiple innings per outing while with the Alternate Site group, and he last pitched 2.0 innings in a game setting on Wednesday. He had been scheduled to pitch in today’s game-like session with the Alternate Site squad.
One of the final cuts at the end of Summer Camp, Hearn was sent to the Alternate Training Stie when the Rangers set the club’s Opening Day roster on July 23. He made 5 appearances in intrasquad games during Summer Camp, last on July 18, and went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA (2 ER/6.0 IP) over 4 games/one start at Spring Training before the shutdown in March.
Hearn’s lone Major League outing came in a start on April 25, 2019 at Seattle, when he took the loss in a 14-2 Texas defeat (0.1 IP, 5 R-4 ER). He missed the rest of the 2019 campaign with a left elbow ligament sprain. A Dallas-area native, Hearn was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade on July 30, 2018.
García was recalled from the Alternate Training Site on July 28, and he went 0-for-6 with a walk in 3 games/2 starts in left field for the Rangers. His last game was Tuesday at Oakland. García became the first Cuban-born player to appear for the Rangers since Leonys Martin (2011-15).
