Royals bring back Jeison Guzman on minor league deal
The Royals boosted their organizational depth on Wednesday night, signing infield prospect Jeison Guzman to a minor league deal two weeks after he was non-tendered, removing him from Kansas City’s 40-man roster and (temporarily) from the organization.

Guzman, 22, was ranked as the Royals’ No. 19 prospect by MLB Pipeline before he was non-tendered. He has yet to play above Class A, but he attended major league spring training and summer camp with the Royals this year and worked out at the club’s alternate training site once the regular season began. He had a brief stint with the major league club in mid-August but did not make his debut.
Guzman, who has played 292 games as a shortstop and seven as a third baseman through four minor league seasons, is regarded most highly for his defense. The switch-hitter has a .245 batting average and a .651 OPS with twelve homers in 314 career minor league games.
