Royals option Viloria to Double-A
Meibrys Viloria, who initially was in the discussion to help replace Salvador Perez, was optioned to Double-A Northwest Arkansas, the Kansas City Royals announced Friday.
Shortly after Perez was ruled out for the season to have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, the Royals signed veteran Martin Maldonado. Cam Gallagher is pegged to be Maldonado’s backup this season.
The Royals now have 37 players in major league camp.
