Job Title: Settlements Officer

Job Summary

  • To manage the role and operations of the fund account unit, updating and developing accounting concepts in recording business and financial transactions while complying with local and international professional and regulatory requirements

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execution of all Funds /Institutional Client’s transactions regarding placements and Liquidations in the Interbank Market by preparing instructions to transferring counterparty and the receiving counterparty
  • Interaction with both internal and external stakeholders as it relates to settlement i.e. Banks and other FIs to ensure transactions are settled in-line with agreed SLA
  • Daily review to make sure all funds movement as per bank placements, T.bills & Government and corporate Bond sale and purchase, Bank placements and liquidations and HYI/portfolio clients redemptions are duly executed.
  • Timely Recording of daily transactions i.e. T.bills/Bonds purchase, sale & Maturities, Bank placements & Liquidations, sale and maturities for all Funds, Institutional and private Clients and communicating same to internal stakeholders.
  • Bank Relationship Management Support.
  • Retrieval of contract notes from counterparties on T.bills, FGN Bond and Bank placements to ensure all parameters contained therein are as agreed.
  • Processing of all HYI/Portfolio payments transactions via RTGS, GAPS and other mode of transfers
  • Daily call over of transactions initiated to ensure that all instructions initiated are executed.
  • Preparing of circularization letters to banks for auditors to confirm holdings for all the companies, funds and portfolios and follow up to make sure they are received and treated accordingly.
  • Reconciliation of all outstanding transactions.

Daily Activities:

  • Daily review to make sure all funds movement as per bank placements, T.bills & Government and corporate Bond sale and purchase, Bank placements and liquidations and HYI/portfolio clients redemptions are duly executed.
  • Daily call over of transactions initiated to ensure that all instructions initiated are executed.

Requirements
Experience / Academic Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in related field
  • Bachelor / Master’s degree in Accounting
  • ICAN / ACCA (added advantage)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Asset & Investment Management and the Financial Services Industry at large.
  • Understanding of stock market operations
  • Prior Investment Management Operations experience
  • Sound understanding of trade flows and settlement processes
  • Previous experience in cash management or stock reconciliation functions
  • Strong statistics, data analysis and technical skills
  • Strong experience with automated financial systems, including a general ledger and financial reporting software
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Issues Management ability
  • Good telephone manners
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other spreadsheet applications
