St. Louis soccer fans, get ready for St. Louis SC
Come 2023, it’s St. Louis City SC that St. Louis soccer fans will be cheering to victory.
The club’s name, colors and crest were revealed Thursday morning by MLS4TheLou, the franchise ownership group led by Carolyn Kindle Betz. The online event included such featured speakers as Kindle Betz and Dan McLaughlin, the play-by-play voice of the St. Louis Cardinals on FOX Sports Midwest and a longtime advocate for a St. Louis MLS club.
Kindle Betz said the club will be known as City, as in, “Go, City!”
Local fans have been celebrating St. Louis’ selection as a Major League Soccer expansion franchise for just shy of a year but have been waiting for something more tangible — a name and a look — ever since. During that time the team’s inaugural season, initially slated for 2022, was pushed back a year because of complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Thursday’s announcement provides an identity for a club that will take shape for another two and a half years before it plays its first MLS match.
