StaTuesday: Shooting performance of Bucks’ Antetokounmpo in NBA All-Star game history

Giannis Antetokounmpo might need to start renting an entire apartment just to hold all of his NBA accolades.

The back-to-back NBA Most Valuable Player, four-time All-NBA honoree, 2019-20 Defensive Player of the Year and 2016-17 Most Improved Player added another piece of hardware to his collection Sunday night.

After pouring in a game-high 35 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block, Antetokounmpo was named the 2020-21 NBA All-Star Game Kobe Bryant MVP.

He’s the first Milwaukee Bucks player to win the MVP honor at the All-Star game.

“Milwaukee, this is for you,” Antetokounmpo said following his postgame press conference with the media.

It marked the third time Antetokounmpo posted 30+ points in an All-Star game, joining a 38-point performance in 2019 and a 30-point effort in 2017, his All-Star debut.

More Bucks coverage

Although we’ve seen the Greek Freak put up numbers in past NBA showcase games, he’s never been so efficient.

In fact, no one has.

Playing in his fifth straight All-Star contest, Antetokounmpo nailed all 16 of his attempts from the field. That includes a perfect 3 for 3 from downtown — although two of those 3-pointers were banked off the glass.

Was that the plan? We’ll assume so.

Before Antetokounmpo, no player in All-Star game history had nailed 100% of his field-goal attempts while taking 10+ shots.

Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis previously held the field-goal percentage record, going 12 for 13 from the field (92.3%) and finishing with 24 points in 2016. Utah center Rudy Gobert registered 21 points on 10-for-11 shooting (90.9%) in 2020.

But neither of those two players attempted a single 3-pointer.
