A lawyer says the former University of Texas at Austin coach who pleaded guilty in the college admissions bribery scheme is a “very good man who made a bad mistake.”
Michael Center pleaded guilty Wednesday to accepting $100,000 to help an applicant get into the school.
Center’s lawyer told reporters after the hearing that Center has mentored “countless” people throughout his career. Attorney John Cunha, Jr. says Center is sorry for his actions and “wants to make amends.”
Center has also agreed to cooperate with authorities in their investigation in the hopes of getting lighter sentence.
He is the third coach to plead guilty in the scandal that has embroiled elite universities across the country.
