Timberwolves’ Towns suspended two games for tussle with Embiid

Minnesota center Karl-Anthony Towns will serve a two-game suspension for his involvement in a scuffle with Philadelphia center Joel Embiid during the Timberwolves‘ 117-95 loss to the Sixers on Wednesday night.

The NBA officially announced the suspension Thursday evening.

Embiid also received an identical two-game suspension. Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons, one of the first players to respond to the tussle, will not be suspended despite Minnesota fighting his status as a “peacemaker” in the brawl.

“While we are disappointed in the league’s decision, we understand the magnitude of this unfortunate incident,” Timberwolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas said in a statement. “The NBA is highly competitive and last night was a reflection of that. We support Karl and will move forward together as a group.”

The Timberwolves’ next two games are against Washington and Milwaukee. Towns will return to action Nov. 6 against the Memphis Grizzlies.
