Titans hire Anthony Midget as new secondary coach

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee coach Mike Vrabel has hired Anthony Midget as his new secondary coach to replace Kerry Coombs, who left to become defensive coordinator at Ohio State.

The Titans announced the hiring Thursday.

Midget spent the past six seasons with the Houston Texans, the past two as secondary coach. Vrabel and Midget both started at Houston in 2014 with Vrabel coaching linebackers before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2017. Midget started as assistant secondary coach before being promoted to secondary coach in 2018.

He started three years at cornerback for Virginia Tech before being drafted in the fifth round in 2000 by Atlanta. He started coaching in 2007 at the Hokies as a graduate assistant, then he went to Georgia State for five seasons with his last as defensive coordinator. Midget coached one season at Penn State in 2013.

Vrabel still is looking for a defensive coordinator to replace Dean Pees, who retired a day after the Titans’ loss in the AFC championship game.
