Twins’ Sano undergoes procedure, will miss opening day
The Minnesota Twins will be without third baseman Miguel Sano on opening day.

Twins chief baseball operator Derek Falvey announced Tuesday that Sano underwent surgery on his lower Achilles to help heal an injury he suffered while playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Sano will resume baseball activities in April.
After making his first career All-Star appearance in 2017, Sano was limited to 71 games last season due to a knee injury and notched a .199/.281/.679 slash line and hit just 13 homers.
Marwin Gonzalez, who the Twins signed to a two-year deal in the offseason, will likely take Sano’s reps at third base while the slugger recovers.
