Vikings put draft pick Willekes on IR, cut four others

The Minnesota Vikings pared down their roster by five Wednesday.

Defensive end Kenny Willekes, a seventh-round pick out of Michigan State this past season, was placed on injured reserve. Because he was put on IR before the cutdown to 53 — the deadline for which is Saturday — he cannot be activated during the season and is out for the year.

The team also waived running back Tony Brooks-James, linebacker Jordan Fehr, defensive end Stacy Keely and defensive end Anthony Zettel.

Brooks-James went undrafted in 2019 and spent the end of the season on Minnesota’s practice squad. He was waived Aug. 8 and re-signed Aug. 15.

Fehr signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent after leading Appalachian State in tackles this past season with 109.

Keely was signed in 2019 after a rookie tryout and spent the year on the Vikings’ practice squad.

Zettel was a sixth-round pick of Detroit in 2016 and has spent time with the Lions, Browns, Bengals and 49ers.
