Ngakoue, who was acquired in a trade with Jacksonville on Aug. 31, appeared in six games for Minnesota and tallied 12 tackles, 5.0 sacks, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

The 25-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

With the departure of Everson Griffen in the offseason, general manager Rick Spielman traded for Ngakoue to give rising star Danielle Hunter a running mate in the Vikings’ pass rush. Minnesota sent a 2021 second-round pick and a 2022 conditional fifth-round pick to the Jaguars in the transaction. However, with the Vikings struggling to a 1-5 record and Hunter on injured reserve, the front office opted to get something in return for Ngakoue before his contract expires.

Ifeadi Odenigbo and D.J. Wonnum will likely be the Vikings’ two starters at defensive end when the team returns to the field Nov. 1 to battle the rival Green Bay Packers.
