Wisconsin QB Jack Coan will transfer

Jack Coan, Wisconsin‘s starting quarterback in 2019 but who has not taken a snap in 2020, will enter the transfer protocol, according to his father, who posted that information on Twitter on Sunday.

While Jack Coan is a senior, players are not losing eligibility for this truncated 2020 season and thus he’d have one year left to play.

Coan played in all 14 games in 2019, completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,727 yards with 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions, for a passer rating of 151.76.

Coan’s 236 completions set a school single-season record, while his yards and completion percentage were both third best.

Coan was on several preseason award lists but a foot injury and subsequent surgery forced him to miss the start of the 2020 season.

Redshirt freshman Graham Mertz took over for Coan and has remained the starter. Sophomore Chase Wolf took over for Mertz after he was injured in Saturday’s game against Minnesota.

While Coan was dressed and on the sideline the past two weeks, head coach Paul Chryst indicated the quarterback was not able to play.

Alex Hornibrook was Wisconsin’s starter in 2018 before losing his job to injury to Coan and he subsequently transferred to Florida State for the 2019 season.
