With strong first month, Odorizzi emerging as Twins’ No. 2 starter

Signed as insurance to Miguel Sano at third base, Gonzalez has stepped in – but hasn’t exactly taken off with the starting role. Through 23 games, Gonzalez is hitting just .167/.244/.256 and has two hits in his last 27 plate appearances. To pile on, Sano began his rehab assignment at Single-A Fort Myers on Tuesday night, going 0 for 1 with a walk and an HBP. The Twins don’t expect Gonzalez to clobber 23 homers and hit .303 like he did with Houston in 2017, but they definitely need more than what they’re currently getting.
