World Cup 2022 Highlights: Morocco upsets Belgium, 2-0

Belgium vs. Morocco

Setting the stage

Belgium is aiming to mark its 50th World Cup game with a second win in Qatar after defeating Canada on Wednesday, 1-0, in its opening game of the tournament.

On the other side, Morocco is battling for its first win of the World Cup after a scoreless draw with Croatia earlier this week.

5′ – Belgium getting chances early

Michy Batshuay provided some pressure early on for Belgium, getting a solid look in front of the net but was stopped.

23′ – Thibaut Courtois says sike

Youssef En-Nesyri came crashing in on the net, but the Belgian goalkeeper kept the Moroccan away with a nice move himself.

45′ + 4′ – VAR wipes off Morocco’s goal

Hakim Ziyech looked like he scored a goal off a Moroccan free kick to put his squad up 1-0 right before halftime. However, the goal went to a VAR review and was wiped off the board due to an offside.

73′ – This one counts for Morocco!

Abdelhamid Sabiri scored on his own free kick, which was practically a shortened corner kick to give Morocco a 1-0 lead. Unlike the last time it put the ball in the net, this goal stood and didn’t need a review – other than to get another look at the impressive goal.
