Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer had five saves in the win.

Switzerland vs. Cameroon

Cameroon ready to go

The Cameroonian players were excited to say the least when they stepped off the bus at the stadium for their first match of the 2022 World Cup.

10′: Chances for Cameroon early, but no dice

Bryan Mbeumo’s shot was stopped by Yann Sommer and while Karl Toko-Ekambi got the rebound, his shot sailed over the net to keep it scoreless early.

14′: Sommer stepping up early

The Switzerland goalkeeper made another early stop when Eric Choupo-Moting broke away for a shot in the box. However, a goal wouldn’t have counted there as Choupo-Moting was ruled offside.

48′: Switzerland strikes first

Breel Embolo scored the match’s first goal, scoring on a shot off a pass into the middle of the box. Embolo, who was born in Cameroon, had a measured celebration to his goal.
